Historic Hotel in Skjolden by the Sognefjord

Eide Gardshotell is a historic guesthouse located in Skjolden, at the very end of the Sognefjord, the longest fjord in the world. Surrounded by the Jotunheimen Mountains and the scenic Sognefjellet route (County Road 55), the hotel offers a peaceful stay in spectacular natural surroundings.

The main building dates back to 1894 and was originally built as a hotel for English mountaineers. One of our most notable guests was the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, who stayed here during his time in Skjolden. His room remains an important part of the house’s history.

Today, the hotel offers five guest rooms with access to two shared bathrooms and one additional WC. Guests may enjoy shared spaces including a dining room, lounge, winter garden, terrace, and garden — all with views of the fjord and mountains.

Comfortable Accommodation

Our rooms combine traditional Norwegian farmhouse style with comfort and simplicity. Bathrobes, slippers, and complimentary toiletries are provided, along with a desk and wardrobe in each room.

A continental breakfast is served daily, and local homemade dinners are available upon reservation. Free parking is included for all guests.

Activities and Attractions

Eide Gardshotell is an ideal base for exploring Jotunheimen National Park, the Sognefjord, and the scenic Sognefjellet mountain road. The Jostedalsbreen Glacier is within driving distance, and the UNESCO-listed Urnes Stave Church is approximately 30 km away. Sogndal Airport (Haukåsen) is about 70 km from our hotel.

We offer four different room categories at our hotel. All our rooms have shared bathrooms with other guest. There are in total 5 rooms sharing 2 bathrooms and 1 extra WC.

OUR DINNER EXPERIENCE

We offer local, home made dinner for our guests.
